“Mein Ziel ist es, die Leute, die mir zuhören, emotional zu packen – meine Seele ihre Hälse hinunterfließen zu lassen und jede Faser ihres Seins durchzurütteln,” sagt DIS FIG, alias Felicia Chen.
Die Wahlberlinerin aus New York hat sich in den letzten Jahren einen Namen als DJ und Produzentin gemacht, und hat von Boiler Room, CTM, Hyperreality und Berghain über Mutek und Unsound bis zu Festivals wie Nyege Nyege in Uganda oder Wetware in China ihre Crowds mit ihren provokativen Sets begeistert, die von Rap, Noise und Techno bis zu perkussiven Club Tracks und ja, Popmomenten, reichen. Mit Hunni’d Jaws zusammen war sie in Form ihrer Radio Show Call Dibs in Berlin lange eine tragende Säule der spannenden Szene experimenteller Club Artists wie Giant Swan, Via App, Air Max ’97, Chino Amobi, Shygirl u.a. Für eine Avantgarde-Pop-Opera des Video- und Performance-Künstlers Tianzhuo Chen hat sie 2018 eine großartige 13-Minuten Komposition geschaffen, die zwischen Field Recordings, Deconstructed Club Music und Noise changierte und ebenso wie 2019 dann ihr Debutalbum Purge auf dem dafür wie Faust auf’s Auge passenden PTP (Purple Tape Pedigree) Label erschien, das sich 2018 endgültig als eines der spannendsten Labels derzeit für experimentierfreudige elektronische Musik herausschälte.
Mit Purge hat Dis Fig ein hypnotisches, verstörendes Juwel geschaffen, in dem sie emotionale Verletzlichkeit erforscht. Flötenloops, die kurz an Grime gemahnen. Ultrabassige Beats wie Gewitterdonner und gutturale, verzerrt-geschriene Vocals umrollen ruhigere, reflektierende Momente. Ein flirrender, schnell pumpender Beat drängt mit eindringlichen Vocals voran, reißt dich mit, wirbelt dich auf die Tanzfläche, und lässt dich im nächsten Moment schon wieder los. Du gleitest durch einen noisig-kathartischen Industrial-Tunnel in einen sanften See choraler Akzente, wirst von düsteren Field Recordings und grummelnden Subbässe bedroht einen emotionalem Popmoment lang von Dis Figs sanftem Gesang getragen bis die dunklen Drones sich in einem orchestralen Crescendo entlädt.

“PURGE is the sound of industrial runoff, of sludgy instrumentation bubbling and swirling—sometimes literally, as in the case of the sickening splashes that fill “Watering.” Melodies creep through the ooze, but by and large, the record’s nine tracks consist mostly of bleak electronics. … The lead single, “Unleash,” is a ballad of static and screaming; Chen’s voice is distorted to hell. KOXETTE funktioniert im Zwischenbereich von Neuer Musik und Radiomüll. Als dystopische Actionfigur geschaffen, soll jeder Takt einem Verlust einer Zukunft entgegenfiebern, dessen Versprechen nie eingelöst wurde. Think: Abstract Techno, R&B concrète. Für das Duo (manchmal Trio) steht immer der politische Kontext im Zentrum ihrer Arbeit. “Dystopian Dance Music”. KOXETTE ist ein Hightech-Traum, eine Kampfmeditation, eine heilende Pop-Replik.
KOXETTE (ex-Colorist) startete bereits im Gründungsjahr 2017 fulminant mit Auftritten und einer Tour durch Chinas Techno- und DIY-Szene. Kommen tun sie aber aus Köln und sind als Gründungsmitglieder des baumusik Kollektivs am Ebertplatz für einige der interessantesten Off-Spaces der Stadt verantwortlich und auch für ein eigenes Label, auf dem 2018 KOXETTEs Debutalbum 21st Century Migraine erschien, mit Releaseshow am Schauspielhaus Köln.
